sources
The primary source for my paper is the movie, To Kill a Mocking Bird by Haper Lee. The movie shows how the culture was beginning to change back in the 1960's. Black men were always stereotyped for trying to get with the white mens wives. Atticus Finch is the lawyer who defends The black man who's name is Tom Robinson. The movie is really showing the change in culture from the fact that a white man is defending a black man. this was unheard of in the 1960's. Black men and women were looked upon to do work. they were pretty much treated like animals, and the fact that a white man stood up for a black man and proved him to be innocent really had an affect on culture. Atticus doesn't not prove him innocent in the court house, but the husband of the wife that was said to be raped by tom was after Atticus and his kids in the late hours of the night, obviously wanting to stop him from proving the tom was innocent. this research is very important. This movie came out when blacks were stilled hated for their skin color. it came out the year before Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated. Hatred was still very present at that time. But things began to change because of the movie because they realized that the way that they looked at black people was wrong. Tom Robinson only helped out the women that he eligibly raped and asked for no pay. this movie affects the reader because all of the people at that time who thought of black men as bad realized after that their stereotyping is wrong. they realized tom was a good man and didn't deserve to die.

I think this movie is an excellent example of how racism was looked upon differently and it allows you to have so many options that you could address in your research paper. It will be extremely beneficial that you talk about Martin Luther King Jr since they occurred around the same time period and it will capture the readers emotions. Today a lot of people would agree with your argument about racial equality, but what did people think of the movie when it came out? Why should the reader care if they already agree that racial equality has a huge impact on American society? How are you going to use your primary source in your research paper? Your primary source allows you to talk about how African Americans were struggling for their freedom and how they were treated differently compared to white people. In your last post you stated your research will be relevant to the government and sports in our society. How are you going to incorporate this movie with government and sports?
ReplyDeleteI think that your primary source will easily give you specific scenes from the movie that will allow you to make your point through analysis. Relating these scenes to your secondary sources and Martin Luther King, if you choose to incorporate him, will really help to give your paper and argument more support. I agree with Michelle though,I'm not sure I understand the why is this important part of your paper. Yes, racial discrimination was a part of our history and was bad, but what are you saying about this? Do you think racial discrimination still exists, and if so could you use Martin Luther king and other influential black figures to show this? Or do you think our society has moved past this discrimination and intend to show this progress. I think once you figure out why your paper is important to the audience, your thesis will be stronger, and you will be bringing something new to the table.
