After reading deeper into the novel; my feelings about McCandless actions of going into the wild haven't changed. Reading deeper into the novel makes my view more set in stone. the author gives more insight into what kind of person chris is. The author writes what he thinks will give the best insight into chris's thoughts and feelings. When he talks to wayne, he rags on society and his parents. the author wants to show how much he doesn't like the structure of family and society. The author also puts quotes from books that christopher was reading, with the intentions of showing what was fueling his thoughts and ideas on the world. I thought that chris's actions were not stupid, it was very bold. He went into the wild for new experiences and to get away from society.

I agree that McCandless went on this journey to get away from the real world. I think there is a little more to it though. It was his experiences in the real world, especially with his family that influenced his desire to leave. I think that he had been planning his journey for a while, and no matter how hard his family could try, (even if they did), they could not change his mind from leaving.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mindy, I think that there was a lot more to Chris' decision to go into the wild. While the author does give us a big insight into what kind of person Chris was, we are missing part of the story in Chris' point of view. The author makes me believe that Chris' decision to go into the wild was not rash or sporadic, but actually planned out. This is why I admire Chris and chose to argue thus in my paper. Chris was brave and followed his dreams and I don't think my opinion of him will change in those regards.
ReplyDeleteI agree that he wanted to get away from society, but he did it to the extreme. He was not prepared at all and burned all his money. If you are going to live in the wild you need supplies to survive and to have a better experience. It is very difficult to live in the wild if you have been living in an upper-middle class family. I personally do not agree with the choices that McCandless made because his plans were not thought out and he went where ever he wanted. He lived to the extreme...
